Before the how, the why

Antalya's bigger. Bodrum's flashier. Istanbul's the obvious answer if you say "Turkey" to most people. Here's the honest case for Alanya specifically — and the questions people actually ask before they believe it.
Turkey overall is Muslim-majority, but that alone doesn't tell you what daily life feels like somewhere. Alanya's older, more residential districts — away from the resort strip — carry a real local rhythm: mosques that are genuinely used, not just present. That's a different thing from a country being statistically Muslim.
Bodrum trades on being the upscale option — prices reflect that. Istanbul is a genuine megacity, 15+ million people, which suits some people and exhausts others. Alanya sits in a real middle ground: coastal, established expat and property infrastructure, without either Bodrum's price tag or Istanbul's scale.
Alanya has one of Turkey's most established foreign-buyer property markets — real infrastructure around it: agencies, TAPU processes, SPK valuers, all genuinely used to overseas buyers. That maturity matters when you're the one signing the paperwork.
Alanya is also genuinely touristy in parts, and several of its biggest districts (Mahmutlar, Kargıcak, Avsallar) are currently closed to new residency registrations specifically because of how popular they've become with foreigners. That's not a hidden flaw — it's exactly why this site tracks district-by-district status rather than pretending everywhere's equally open.
